• Power to the People

• Impact of Britain on the world

These 3 topics are designed to build knowledge and understanding of the content required to successfully complete our GCSE course.

 

Homework during Year 7 will be weekly revision for knowledge tests on the material previously studied.

KS4

History GCSE AQA 8145

History is about people – real people whose lives were sometimes exciting and sometimes frightening, like the experience of a soldier about to go to war in the jungles of Vietnam. Whatever their lives were about, there’s a fascinating, and sometimes tragic, story behind them. As well as being exciting, this course will help students develop skills which will be useful in a wide range of jobs, such as journalism, law, medicine, flying, politics, archaeology, social work, libraries or teaching. To achieve this students will study a wide range of history including the development of Britain and how the Cold War shaped the modern world.

Topics Covered:

America, 1920 - 1973: Opportunity and Inequality  Conflict and tension in Asia, 1950 -75  Britain: Migration, empires and the people: c790 to the present day  Medieval England: The reign of Edward I, 1272 - 1307

Assessment:

The GCSE is 100% exam based:- Paper 1. Understanding the modern world (1 hour 45 minutes) = 50% of GCSE Paper 2. Shaping the nation (1 hour 45 minutes) = 50% of GCSE. Students are assessed throughout the course using exam style questions which are completed both in class and at home.

Course Progression:

The obvious progression from GCSE History is to complete an ‘A’ Level course in History. The AQA GCSE course naturally builds into the AQA ‘A’ Level course by enhancing the foundation of skills built at GCSE. A GCSE in History requires a number of important skills including analysis and interpretation as well as the ability to explain and utilise factual information. These skills will aid students completing any ‘A’ Level subjects, particularly those based around the Humanities, like politics.

Careers:

The skills built studying History lend themselves to almost any career but in particular these skills are valued by employers in industries like:- Law, Politics, The Civil Service, Publishing, Education, Journalism, Accounting and The Police Force to name but a few.
