REWARDS AND ATTITUDES

TO LEARNING

Rewards are an essential incentive for students to reach personal goals and targets relating to work and positive attitudes to learning.

At Turves Green Boys’ School we want the rewards system to engage students who attend, work and behave well but do not necessarily stand out. This quiet majority can often be forgotten by a school rewards system which continually rewards a minority of outstanding students.

Students receive electronic ‘effort points’ on SIMS for working hard in lessons, bringing the correct equipment to school and making a positive contribution to the school and college community. Tutors inform students of their current points total on a weekly basis, keeping track of when certain thresholds have been reached, for which students will receive certificates and be eligible for a range of rewards experiences. We have regular competitions to reward outstanding work in lessons and excellent attendance.  The Form Groups with the best attendance on a weekly basis are given a reward at the beginning of the following week.  Students who achieve the highest amount of the electronic points award for achievement in lessons are given a voucher to spend in the school restaurant. Each fortnight, student success is celebrated in a college assembly where the achievement of students can be publically recognised. The points accrued collectively by each college are compared each term and the winners become holders of the much coveted College Cup!

We recognise that positive behaviour is essential for a successful school in which individuals feel safe, secure and where quality teaching and learning take place in a calm, purposeful climate. Whilst we expect all of our students to behave in a courteous and considerate manner, we have an underpinning Behaviour Policy which ensures that there are strategies in place to deal with poor behaviour promptly and effectively.
