The College system was introduced in 2016 with the aim of fostering a greater feeling of ‘community’ at TGBS, in which students are instilled with a sense of ‘belonging’.

The College names came from the students.  Students were asked to suggest names for the 3 colleges, or themes for names.  After much deliberation and amusement (Alvin, Simon and Theodore didn’t make the final vote) students were invited to vote for their favourite from a choice of 3.

Famous space missions seem to resonate with the vast majority of students and so the Colleges were named – DISCOVERY, ENDEAVOUR AND VOYAGER.

Since 2016 the college rivalry has grown.  Students represent their college with pride, earning college points through behaviour and performance in lessons and around school.

College identity was established with the introduction of a new school tie.  This was designed by students who even made the long trip to Stockport the see the first ties come off the production line!
